10th Annual Festival

Begun in 2004, this year marked the 10th anniversary of SHARANYA’s Kali Puja Festival. Designed to welcome newcomers and provide spiritual seekers of all backgrounds an introduction to the Divine Mother, we came together on the night of November 2, 2013 to sing Her praises, offer our devotions, and worship Maa Kali as The Ageless One, Goddess of Crossroads, Black Mother, She Who is Beyond Time.
Fifty-one of us were present for the puja, a heterodox ceremony that incorporates traditional elements from both Vedic and Tantric rites. Hindus, Pagans, Sufis, and a collection of multi-religious and spiritual people assembled with reverence and respect to honor Her. Chanting Her names and opening through the gateways provided by age-old spiritual techniques, we together came to understand ourselves, one another and the Divine more deeply through our communion and worship.
Preparations are done, and we ready to open the temple doors to those gathered outside awaiting Her embrace. It is almost 6pm and darkness has settled on the mandir. The temple floor is cool and the air is warm as music begins to fill the space. We chant Om Maa! and the puja commences…
For this year’s Kali Puja Festival, thirteen initiates gathered to create the temple and perform puja for Maa and share their love of Her with 38 seekers in community. Thirteen initiates donned black and red, the colors of Her satisfaction and promise, to show their commitment and humbly present themselves before Her. Here, we come…
At the center of our circle is a wishing well, charged water from the seven sacred rivers imbued with the energies of our internal nadis, channels, of pranashakti, Her vital essence within. At the peak of our devotions, we enter into a time of personal meditation on Maa and offer up to Her our prayers….
